Prices change regularly: always check the current rate with each company before signing.

Installation models differ from one company to another. A reversible air conditioner contains a pressurised refrigerant, and a careful connection supports efficiency, quiet operation and the absence of leaks. Depending on the company, installation is carried out by salaried technicians, by the experts of local branches or by a national network of qualified professionals and partner tradespeople.

Servicing is often forgotten when comparing quotes. An air conditioner rated 4 to 70 kW must be serviced every 2 years: choosing an air conditioning installer that also handles servicing avoids looking for a second provider two years later.

1. Murfy

Murfy is a French company founded in 2018, first known for repairing and refurbishing household appliances. It expanded into heating and air conditioning with the same model, and states that it relies on 250 salaried technicians.

Installation and servicing by the same team

An installation project starts with a quote request for a heating or air conditioning solution. A Murfy expert comes for a free technical visit, then the company sends two proposals with detailed quotes. Murfy states that it handles the grant applications and any planning declaration at the town hall. Its technicians then carry out the full installation: connection, settings, commissioning, and a walkthrough so the customer can use the equipment on their own.

The main advantage comes after installation. Murfy offers the first service for free, the same teams service air conditioners, and the company states “zero subcontracting” on its servicing page. Appointments are booked online, with slots advertised within 48 hours in most of the areas covered.

Air conditioning servicing at a published price

Murfy publishes its servicing prices:

  • Air conditioner or air-to-air heat pump: from 135 euros including VAT, about 1 h 30 on site
  • From 3 splits: 55 euro supplement
  • What it includes: refrigerant circuit check, component inspection, written report and servicing certificate

Murfy’s technicians repair appliances every day. During a service visit, they spot signs of wear and, according to Murfy, offer a quote before any extra work, which is carried out with the customer’s agreement.

More than 450,000 customer households, according to Murfy

Murfy states that more than 450,000 households have already used its services. The company is listed as a social and solidarity economy company in the French State’s company directory (Annuaire des entreprises), and its installation subsidiary Murfy Energies holds the RGE QualiPAC qualification in the ADEME directory.

IZI by EDF, Savelys and Leroy Merlin: what each player does best

Each of the other players in the ranking has a real strength that can make it the better option depending on the project.

2. Tied - IZI by EDF

IZI by EDF acts as a coordinator. An adviser guides the customer, then the installation is carried out by a qualified professional. The reversible air conditioning brands offered include Atlantic and Toshiba, with models delivered and installed from 1,735 euros including VAT at the time of the review.

Its strength is administrative: IZI by EDF calculates the grants the project is eligible for, deducts them from the quote and supports the customer with the applications. A breakdown contract is included for the first year, and an air conditioning servicing contract can be taken out online, from 178.05 euros including VAT a year. IZI by EDF provides a free, personalised quote, and several of its branches hold the RGE QualiPAC qualification.

2. Tied - Savelys

Savelys, the new name of Engie Home Services, relies on 3,000 technicians and a network of RGE-certified branches. Its Modul’Air offer includes a selection of single-split and multi-split units, using R32 refrigerant.

Prices are published, equipment and installation included: from 2,029.82 euros including VAT for an Atlantic Murao Smart single split. The appointment and the quote are free, Savelys guides customers in obtaining grants, and its air conditioning servicing contracts start at 7 euros a month (two-yearly Liberté contract) and can be taken out online. Savelys offers a 2-year guarantee, which can be extended by a further 3 years with the Sécurité maintenance contract.

4. Leroy Merlin

Leroy Merlin uses partner tradespeople for installation, and carries the installation guarantee and after-sales service itself. The installation of a fixed reversible air conditioner is guaranteed for 10 years after the work is signed off. Customers can choose a full package or order only the installation, or only the commissioning, and the retailer publishes air conditioner servicing at 110 to 180 euros.

The retailer mentions up to 873 euros in grants for a reversible split air conditioner, subject to conditions. It offers a single point of contact for purchase and installation.

Ranking methodology

The four companies were assessed on 6 November 2026 against the same ten criteria, using the public pages of their websites (air conditioning installation and servicing pages, FAQs, company pages), the ADEME RGE directory, the French State’s company directory (Annuaire des entreprises) and the Trustpilot review platform. The first three criteria, assessed at brand level on what each company publishes, are the same in every ranking on this site that includes Murfy; the next seven are specific to installing and servicing air conditioning. A qualification held by a branch or subsidiary bearing the company’s name or brand counts for that company (Murfy Energies for Murfy, IZI by EDF and Savelys branches). As Leroy Merlin’s pages could not be displayed live on the day of the review, they were read in their latest public archived copy (Wayback Machine, February and June 2026).

Scoring grid. Each criterion met is worth 1 point and is marked Yes. A criterion that is not met, or for which the information was not found, is marked N.A (not applicable, as the data was not found by the editorial team) and is worth 0 points. All criteria carry the same weight, 1/10 of the overall score each (10%, 100% in total). The position follows from the overall score. Two companies with the same overall score are ranked tied, at the same rank, and the next rank is skipped; between tied companies, the order of presentation is alphabetical and carries no rank value.

How to choose an air conditioning installer in France

To choose an air conditioning installer, five checks are enough in most cases. They apply to national networks and local tradespeople alike.

  1. The certificate of capacity: it is mandatory for any company handling refrigerants, under the French Environmental Code. Without it, the unit cannot be commissioned. It is issued by an approved body and must be valid.
  2. Ten-year liability insurance: the certificate must explicitly cover air conditioning work.
  3. Who installs: a technician employed by the company, or a subcontractor. The question is worth asking in writing.
  4. An assessment before the quote: a serious installer evaluates floor area, insulation and exposure before recommending a power rating and a type of unit (single split, multi-split or ducted).
  5. Servicing after installation: who handles it, at what price and how quickly.

The RGE QualiPAC qualification is not required to install air conditioning. It becomes useful when the project targets public funding, since the French RGE label is a condition for most schemes.

Warning signs to look out for

Door-to-door or phone canvassing remains the first warning sign. A serious professional leaves time to compare several quotes and does not rush the signature.

A quote with no power rating in kW, no unit reference or no mention of the distance between the indoor and outdoor units is incomplete. These three items drive the price and must be written down.

An installer who calls themselves an “air conditioning specialist” but cannot show a certificate of capacity should not be hired, whatever the price.

Air conditioning installer reviews: how to read them

Reviews of an air conditioning installer are not all equal. A rating only makes sense alongside the number of reviews behind it and the scope it covers.

What to look atWhyExample
Number of reviewsA rating based on 20 reviews moves quickly, one based on 30,000 is stableTotal number shown next to the rating
Scope of the ratingA rating may cover all services, not just air conditioningA rating covering all of a company’s services
Content of the reviewsInstallation, cleanliness and follow-up matter more than the sales pitchReviews detailing commissioning
Company repliesThey show how disputes are handledPublic reply to a negative review
Date of the reviewsA network can change subcontractorsReviews from the last 12 months

The most useful reviews describe the noise of the outdoor unit, how the refrigerant lines were routed, how clean the site was left and how quickly problems were handled after commissioning. A review that only talks about the salesperson says little about the quality of the installation.

Prices, grants and servicing: the real cost of air conditioning

The cost of an installation depends mainly on the number of rooms to equip and the power required. A single split cools one room, a multi-split system covers several rooms with one outdoor unit.

ItemRange or priceSource
Installed single split, entry levelFrom €2,029.82 incl. VATSavelys, 2026

As for grants, an air-to-air reversible air conditioner is not eligible for MaPrimeRénov’. The French energy savings certificate bonus (CEE) is the main option, provided the work is done by an RGE-qualified professional and the application is made before the quote is signed.

Mandatory servicing every 2 years

Servicing is the cost most often left out of quotes. The rule is set by decree no. 2020-912 of 28 July 2020.

According to ADEME, heat pumps and air conditioners with a power rating between 4 and 70 kW must be serviced every 2 years, under this decree.

The first visit must take place no later than 2 years after installation. The technician must also hold a certificate of capacity. The logic is the same as for annual boiler maintenance: a well-maintained unit uses less energy and breaks down less often. In Paris, the comparison of boiler servicing providers details the price of a visit and of contracts.

Setting the unit correctly to keep bills down

Once installed, settings matter as much as the choice of installer. ADEME, the French environment agency, recommends not setting air conditioning below 26 °C in summer. Every degree lower increases consumption.

The everyday habits described in the guide to reduce your electricity bill also apply to air conditioning: close the shutters during the hottest hours, ventilate at night, and clean the indoor unit’s filters every month when it is in use.

Which air conditioning installer for which project

The right choice depends less on the brand of the unit than on the type of project.

To be looked after over time, installation and servicing included

Murfy suits anyone who wants a single point of contact for the whole life of the unit. The salaried technicians who install the air conditioner are the same ones who service it afterwards, with a free first service and then a published price from 135 euros.

For a renovation project with several grants

IZI by EDF has the edge when air conditioning is part of a wider project, for example with insulation, because the grant paperwork is built into the quote.

To know the price before any appointment

Savelys publishes prices with installation included, which makes it easy to estimate a budget before requesting other quotes.

To buy the unit in store

Leroy Merlin suits people who choose their air conditioner in store and want the guarantee of a national retailer on the installation.

For a heating or cooling problem on an existing unit

A unit that heats or cools poorly does not always need replacing. Before considering a new installation, the guide on who to call for a heating problem in Paris helps sort out the causes and the right people to contact. For an air conditioner already installed that breaks down, the guide to finding a certified air conditioning repairer details the capacity certificate to ask for and the call-out offers of the national networks.

Frequently asked questions

Which air conditioning installer should I choose in France?
In this ranking of four national players assessed on 6 November 2026 against ten public criteria, Murfy scores 10 out of 10: salaried technicians, zero subcontracting stated, a free technical visit, a free first service after installation and air conditioning servicing from 135 euros. IZI by EDF and Savelys are ranked 2nd, tied (5 out of 10): IZI by EDF prepares the grant applications and deducts them from the quote, Savelys publishes installed prices, from 2,029.82 euros including VAT for a single split. Leroy Merlin ranks 4th (1 out of 10) and suits anyone who buys their unit in store.
How do I choose an air conditioning installer?
The first thing to check is the certificate of capacity for handling refrigerants, which is mandatory in France to install and commission an air conditioner. Then check the ten-year liability insurance, whether the installer is an employee or a subcontractor, a quote that details the power, the number of units and the distance between them, and whether the company can carry out the mandatory servicing every 2 years for units between 4 and 70 kW.
How much does it cost to install reversible air conditioning in France?
At Savelys, an installed single-split unit starts at 2,029.82 euros including VAT for an Atlantic Murao Smart. The Obat price guide puts a single-split unit above 3 kW at around 3,500 euros including installation, and the equipment alone between 700 and 1,000 euros. Murfy and Leroy Merlin quote after assessing the home. The number of rooms to connect is what changes the price the most.
Is air conditioning servicing mandatory in France?
Yes. Decree no. 2020-912 of 28 July 2020 requires servicing every 2 years for heat pumps and air conditioners rated between 4 and 70 kW, with the first visit no later than 2 years after installation. At Murfy, air conditioning servicing starts at 135 euros, with a 55 euro supplement from 3 splits.
How should I read reviews of an air conditioning installer?
A rating only means something alongside the number of reviews and its scope. The most useful reviews mention the installation, how clean the work site was left, the noise of the outdoor unit and the follow-up after commissioning. Perfect ratings based on a handful of reviews should be treated with caution.

How our rankings are established

Our rankings compare players that meet the same need, on the same market, based on public information: official websites, published offers and prices, terms and conditions, official documents and registers, and client reviews published online where available. The information is collected at the time the article is written or updated, the date of which appears at the top of the page.

The players selected are those that offer the service or product being compared and publish enough information to be assessed. Our rankings do not claim to be exhaustive. Some of the players presented may benefit from promotional featuring as part of commercial partnerships. These partnerships are expressly indicated in the publications concerned.

Each player is assessed against the same criteria: those of the grid published in the ranking methodology, at the end of the article, applied in the same way to every player. Each criterion is marked Yes or N.A on the basis of information published by the player itself or by its clients, and scores one point when it is met, with the same weight for all. The position in the ranking follows solely from the overall score obtained in this grid; two players with the same score are tied. When the editorial team could not find the information needed to score a criterion, it is marked N.A (not applicable, as the data was not found by the editorial team) and scores no points. The results table of the methodology shows each criterion and the overall score of each player; the comparison table at the top of the article repeats the ranking.
