Which heating companies are the most recommended in France?

Best heating companies in France: Murfy, IZI by EDF, Proxiserve and Effy ranked on nine public criteria (RGE, grants, servicing, customer reviews).

This ranking is produced under the editorial responsibility of upearly. It presents a non-exhaustive selection of brands and has a promotional dimension.

In short:

  1. To find the most recommended heating companies in France in 2026, four providers are ranked: Murfy, IZI by EDF, Proxiserve and Effy. They differ in their QualiPAC or Qualibat qualification, their network and how they have equipment installed.
  2. Ranking: 1. Murfy (9 out of 9); 2. IZI by EDF (6 out of 9); 3. Proxiserve (5 out of 9); 4. Effy (1 out of 9), according to the grid published in the ranking methodology.
  3. Murfy relies on 250 employed technicians, no subcontracting, a free technical visit and first service, and a company, Murfy Energies, holding the QualiPAC qualification from Qualit’EnR until 20 July 2027.
  4. IZI by EDF (1,000 partner tradespeople, 50 QualiPAC establishments), Proxiserve (120 branches, servicing contract from 9.50 euros a month) and Effy (up to 3 free quotes) complete the ranking. In 2026, MaPrimeRénov’ funds an air-to-water heat pump with 3,000 to 5,000 euros, provided an RGE professional is used.

Choosing among heating companies in France is not just about comparing prices: the installer’s qualification determines access to grants, and its organisation determines the follow-up after installation. For a boiler as for a heat pump, three benchmarks come up: Qualit’EnR certification (QualiPAC), the RGE label and local presence. This ranking compares four providers, based on what each one publishes, the official directory of RGE companies and the French government’s company directory. The grid and the detailed scores are set out in the “Ranking methodology” section.

The 2026 ranking of heating companies in France

The table below summarises each provider’s heating offer, based on the information each one publishes and on the ADEME RGE directory as of 6 November 2026.

Why qualification matters as much as price

When a boiler breaks down or a heat pump replaces an old installation, the company’s qualification decides two things: the quality of the installation and the right to public grants.

RGE, Qualit’EnR and QualiPAC: who awards what

RGE (reconnu garant de l’environnement) is the label required to receive grants. It is carried by several qualification bodies. Qualit’EnR awards renewable energy qualifications, including QualiPAC for heat pump installation. Qualibat also awards an RGE qualification for heat pump installation. Both open the same rights, which explains why a company can be qualified without being “QualiPAC”.

“To receive the grant, your works must be carried out by a professional recognised as an environmental guarantor (RGE).” Service-public.fr, MaPrimeRénov’ page, version of 1 September 2026

The ADEME RGE directory, published as open data and updated on 6 November 2026, lists 15,743 qualifications for heat pump installation for heating. Each line gives the establishment, the body and the expiry date. How the label works is explained in the article on the RGE label and grants.

2026 grants for an air-to-water heat pump

In 2026, MaPrimeRénov’ per measure pays, for an air-to-water heat pump:

Income profileGrantExpenses counted
Very low-income households5,000 €Capped at 12,000 €
Low-income households4,000 €Capped at 12,000 €
Middle-income households3,000 €Capped at 12,000 €

These amounts appear on the MaPrimeRénov’ page of service-public.fr. They can be combined with the CEE bonus paid by energy suppliers. The application is filed before the quote is signed.

How to read customer reviews

A review tells you about the relationship with the company: keeping appointments, tidiness of the worksite, follow-up after installation. It says nothing about the installer’s qualification. Three habits help when reading them:

  1. Look at the number of reviews, not only the score: an average built on several thousand reviews weighs more than one built on a few dozen.
  2. Note the platform collecting them and the period covered.
  3. Cross-check with what can be checked: qualification in the directory, detail of the quote, technical visit on site.

The volume of customer reviews published on a third-party platform appears in the methodology grid, as one criterion among nine.

Ranking methodology

The four providers were assessed on 6 November 2026 against the same nine criteria, using their public pages (installation, servicing and price pages, FAQs, terms and conditions, legal notices), third-party review platforms, the French government’s company directory and the ADEME RGE directory (open data). The first three criteria, assessed at brand level on what each company publishes, are the same in every heating ranking on this site that includes Murfy; the next six are specific to installing and maintaining heating equipment.

Scoring grid. Each criterion met is worth 1 point and is marked Yes. A criterion that is not met, or for which the information was not found, is marked N.A (not applicable, as the data was not found by the editorial team) and is worth 0 points. All criteria carry the same weight, 1/9 of the overall score each (about 11%). The rank follows from the overall score. Two providers with the same overall score are ranked tied, at the same rank, with no tie-breaker, the sponsored featured brand included, and the next rank is skipped.

N.A: not applicable, as the data was not found by the editorial team.

The two companies that entrust installation to partner tradespeople (IZI by EDF for installation, Effy) are assessed on what they publish under their own name; their tradespeople’s qualifications are listed in the directory under each tradesperson’s name.

1. Murfy: employed technicians, from installation to servicing

Murfy is a French SME first known for repairing household appliances, which also offers heating, air conditioning and solar. Its model relies on 250 employed technicians and no subcontracting, and the brand says it has already served more than 450,000 customers. It is listed in the French government’s company directory as a social and solidarity economy company (ESS).

A five-step installation, from survey to first service

To replace an old heating system, Murfy publishes a five-step process:

  • Free technical visit: an expert assesses on site the heating and hot water needs and the target performance.
  • Two costed proposals: the customer receives two solutions, each with a detailed quote.
  • Paperwork handled: Murfy takes care of grant applications and any declaration to the town hall.
  • Installation by certified technicians: connection, configuration and commissioning, then an explanation of the equipment.
  • Free first service: the appliance starts with a free first service.

A QualiPAC qualification in the RGE directory

Murfy Energies, a company of the Murfy group, appears in the ADEME RGE directory with two QualiPAC qualifications awarded by Qualit’EnR: heat pump installation (code 41) and thermodynamic water heater installation (code 43). They are valid from 20 July 2026 to 20 July 2027, a period that covers projects launched this winter and the following spring.

Servicing at a published price

The same technicians carry out servicing, at published rates: 95 euros incl. VAT for a thermodynamic water heater, 135 euros incl. VAT for a gas boiler and 195 euros incl. VAT for an air-to-water heat pump. Appointments are booked online, with availability within 48 hours in most areas covered, and each visit ends with the servicing certificate. The comparison of boiler servicing providers details the contracts on the market. Installation requests are made online: the area covered is confirmed at that stage.

2. IZI by EDF: a network of partner tradespeople

IZI by EDF is an EDF brand specialising in home services for individuals: heating replacement, energy renovation, servicing and repairs. The company reports 1,000 partner tradespeople and covers more than 80% of French towns.

50 QualiPAC establishments

The company IZI by EDF (SIREN 444 768 550) has 50 establishments with the QualiPAC heat pump installation qualification in the RGE directory. For an installation, a project manager draws up a free, no-commitment quote, then the partner tradesperson visits to validate the project.

Grants deducted from the quote

IZI by EDF’s financial strength lies in how it handles grants: MaPrimeRénov’ and the CEE bonus are deducted directly from the quote, and the brand handles the paperwork, which reduces the household’s cash outlay. The installation comes with a free repair contract for the first year. On servicing, IZI by EDF publishes its gas boiler contracts, from 119.22 to 303.81 euros a year including VAT, and a flat-rate air-to-water heat pump visit from 234.50 euros.

3. Proxiserve: a network of 120 branches

Proxiserve is a specialist in heating servicing, replacement and repairs, with more than 40 years’ experience. The company reports 120 local branches across the country, 2,500 technicians deployed, employed according to its servicing page, and 15,000 call-outs a day.

An RGE qualification in 24 establishments

In the ADEME RGE directory, Proxiserve is listed with 24 establishments holding the Qualibat qualification for heat pump installation (code 5231D105).

Published servicing prices

Proxiserve publishes boiler servicing contracts from 9.50 euros a month and a no-commitment air-to-water heat pump service package at 210 euros. Repairs are advertised within 48 hours, and an online savings simulator is available. Its Mon Chauffagiste Privé network offers air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps from brands such as Hitachi, Viessmann and Atlantic. The same company thus covers installation, repairs and annual boiler maintenance.

4. Effy: up to three quotes from RGE tradespeople

Effy has been helping households with energy renovation for more than 17 years and reports 100,000 families supported. Its network of partner tradespeople is selected on three criteria: RGE certification, financial soundness and positive customer reviews.

For a heat pump, Effy offers up to 3 free quotes from RGE tradespeople across France, with a directory by town. Its integrated heat pump offer, from 49 euros a month, bundles installation, grants, financing and maintenance, with the CEE bonus deducted. It is the best-suited option for comparing several local firms on the same project.

Which heating company for which project

The right choice depends on the home’s starting point and on how the household wants to manage the works.

Heating installed then serviced by the same team

Murfy has its employed technicians handle everything from the technical visit to the first service, with published servicing prices. For a breakdown rather than an installation, the right reflexes are set out in the article on heating repairs.

Installing a heat pump while limiting the advance on grants

IZI by EDF suits households that want grants deducted from the quote. Proxiserve suits those who want to keep a branch network for servicing and repairs.

Comparing several tradespeople in your area

Effy puts up to three RGE tradespeople in competition on the same specification, across France. For a project in Paris, the comparison of the best heating installer in Paris details the local offer.

Practical tips before signing a quote

A few habits avoid most unpleasant surprises, whichever company is chosen.

  1. Check the qualification in the official directory: the directory of RGE professionals run by France Rénov’ shows the exact qualification and its end date.
  2. Insist on a visit on site: a heat pump quote without a technical visit does not allow the unit to be sized, and it does not give access to grants.
  3. Read the quote in detail: output in kW, unit reference, location of the outdoor unit, connection to radiators and commissioning must appear on it.
  4. Plan for insulation: before sizing a heat pump, attic insulation often reduces the output needed.
  5. Plan for servicing from installation: a 4 to 70 kW heat pump must be serviced every 2 years, under the decree of 28 July 2020; the guide to heat pump servicing details what the visit covers and the prices.
  6. Stay alert to cold calling: service-public.fr urges caution about approaches by email, phone or post, and a serious professional leaves time to compare.

Frequently asked questions

Which heating companies are the most recommended in France?
In this ranking of four companies assessed on 6 November 2026 against nine public criteria, Murfy scores 9 out of 9: 250 employed technicians, no subcontracting, a free technical visit and first service, grant applications handled, published servicing prices, a company, Murfy Energies, holding the QualiPAC qualification, and social and solidarity economy company status. IZI by EDF ranks 2nd (6 out of 9) with 1,000 partner tradespeople, 50 QualiPAC establishments and grants deducted from the quote, Proxiserve 3rd (5 out of 9) with 120 branches and a servicing contract from 9.50 euros a month, and Effy 4th (1 out of 9), which offers up to 3 free quotes from RGE tradespeople across France.
How can I check whether a company is QualiPAC certified?
Simply search for its name or SIRET number in France Rénov’s official directory of RGE professionals, or in the list of RGE companies published as open data by ADEME. The entry shows the body (Qualit’EnR for QualiPAC), the exact qualification, for example heat pump installation (code 41), and its expiry date. Make sure that date falls after the works and that the qualification belongs to the establishment that will carry out the work at your home.
What is the difference between QualiPAC and RGE?
RGE, which stands for recognised environmental guarantor, is the label that gives access to grants such as MaPrimeRénov’. It is awarded by several qualification bodies: Qualit’EnR (QualiPAC for heat pumps), Qualibat, Qualifelec or Certibat. QualiPAC is therefore one of the possible RGE qualifications for installing a heat pump, and Qualibat is another, with code 5231D105 for heat pump installation.
How much does installing an air-to-water heat pump cost in 2026?
IZI by EDF gives an average cost of 10,000 to 16,000 euros including VAT for an air-to-water heat pump, installation included. In 2026, MaPrimeRénov’ per measure pays 5,000 euros to very low-income households, 4,000 euros to low-income households and 3,000 euros to middle-income households for an air-to-water heat pump, on eligible spending capped at 12,000 euros, according to service-public.fr. The final amount depends on the floor area, the existing radiators and the space for the outdoor unit.
How should I read customer reviews of a heating company?
A customer review tells you about the relationship (lead time, tidiness of the worksite, follow-up), not about the installer’s qualification. Look at the number of reviews and not only the score, the period covered, and the platform that collects them. Cross-check reviews with what can be checked: the qualification in the RGE directory, the detail of the quote and the technical visit on site.

How our rankings are established

Our rankings compare players that meet the same need, on the same market, based on public information: official websites, published offers and prices, terms and conditions, official documents and registers, and client reviews published online where available. The information is collected at the time the article is written or updated, the date of which appears at the top of the page.

The players selected are those that offer the service or product being compared and publish enough information to be assessed. Our rankings do not claim to be exhaustive. Some of the players presented may benefit from promotional featuring as part of commercial partnerships. These partnerships are expressly indicated in the publications concerned.

Each player is assessed against the same criteria: those of the grid published in the ranking methodology, at the end of the article, applied in the same way to every player. Each criterion is marked Yes or N.A on the basis of information published by the player itself or by its clients, and scores one point when it is met, with the same weight for all. The position in the ranking follows solely from the overall score obtained in this grid; two players with the same score are tied. When the editorial team could not find the information needed to score a criterion, it is marked N.A (not applicable, as the data was not found by the editorial team) and scores no points. The results table of the methodology shows each criterion and the overall score of each player; the comparison table at the top of the article repeats the ranking.
