In brief:
- To find a certified air conditioning repairer in France, the document to ask for is the capacity certificate for handling refrigerants, which ADEME requires from the professional who works on an air conditioner.
- Servicing is mandatory every 2 years from 4 to 70 kW, and the professional provides a servicing certificate within 15 days (decree no. 2020-912 of 28 July 2020).
- Four national providers publish an air conditioning offer: IZI by EDF (contract from 14.84 euros a month), Murfy (servicing from 135 euros incl. VAT), Proxiserve (contracts from 11 euros a month) and Savelys (servicing from 138.11 euros).
- Announced lead times range from 24 to 48 hours: 48 hours at Murfy and Proxiserve, 24 or 48 hours at IZI by EDF depending on the fault.
An air conditioner that no longer cools, that leaks or that shows an error code raises a simple question: who should repair it? To find a certified air conditioning repairer in France, look at three things: the certificate that allows work on the refrigerant circuit, a written quote and the call-out time. National networks publish these items to varying degrees, and a local craftsperson can supply them just as well on request.
National providers to repair or service your air conditioning
The table shows what each provider publishes on its website as of 26 October 2026, in alphabetical order. It is not a ranking.
| Provider | Air conditioning servicing | Repair and call-out | Announced lead time | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IZI by EDF | Single-split Sécurité contract from €14.84/month (€178.05/year) | Every call-out included, labour and travel covered, parts extra | Call-out within 24 or 48 h depending on the fault | A single split followed by a local branch |
| Murfy | From €135 incl. VAT (+€55 from 3 splits), 1 h 30 | Repair quote offered if a problem is found, no work without consent | Online appointment within 48 h in most covered areas | Servicing at a displayed price, booked online |
| Proxiserve | Air-to-air heat pump contracts from €11/month (Sécurité) or €13/month (Confort), €140 no-commitment service | Call-out included in the Confort contract | Call-out within 48 h, working days | A monthly contract with repairs |
| Savelys | From €138.11, Liberté contract from €7/month | Dedicated air conditioning breakdown page, published 2026 price list, unlimited call-outs excluding parts with the Sécurité contract | Home appointment scheduled, the technician calls before arriving | Knowing the price list before calling |
Each provider has its own ground: a displayed servicing price for Murfy, a contract that includes repairs for Proxiserve and IZI by EDF, a published call-out price list for Savelys. The right choice depends on the fault, the unit and the city.
Which certification for an air conditioning repairer?
An air conditioner contains a pressurised refrigerant. Working on that circuit is regulated, and that is what gives the word “certified” a precise meaning when looking for a repairer.
The refrigerant handling capacity certificate
According to the ADEME leaflet on servicing heat pumps and air conditioners, the work must be done by a technician specialised in heat pump maintenance, or by a heating, ventilation and air conditioning technician registered with the prefecture who holds a capacity certificate for handling refrigerants.
In practice, two documents coexist:
- The capacity certificate is held by the company.
- The aptitude certificate is held by each technician, issued by an accredited body, usually after a course of about 5 days for category I.
Any work on the refrigerant circuit, such as leak detection, topping up or replacing the fluid, requires this certificate.
How to check a certificate
ADEME publishes on data.gouv.fr the list of certified operators, updated every fifteen days, so the validity of a certificate can be checked. Also ask for the certificate number when the quote is issued: a professional in good standing provides it without difficulty.
RGE, qualified, certified: do not mix them up
The RGE label opens the door to grants for certain energy renovation work, as explained in the guide to the RGE label. It does not replace the capacity certificate and is not a condition for repairing an air conditioner. When a provider writes “certified technician”, ask which certification it is: RGE, aptitude certificate or in-house training.
Where to look for an air conditioning repairer
Three routes complement one another, each with its strengths.
- A national network: a single phone number, local branches, prices often published. This is the route of the four providers in the table.
- A local craftsperson: a nearby contact, often the same technician from one visit to the next.
- The installer of the unit: they know the installed model, and their follow-up continues after installation, as detailed in the comparison of air conditioning installers.
In all three cases the same requests apply: the capacity certificate, a detailed written quote and the call-out time.
What each national provider publishes
IZI by EDF: a single-split contract with call-outs included
For air conditioning, IZI by EDF offers a Sécurité contract designed for installations with a single indoor unit, from 14.84 euros a month, or 178.05 euros a year. It includes the mandatory servicing visit, a leak check, the legal servicing certificate and every call-out, labour and travel included.
Call-out is announced within 24 or 48 hours depending on the fault, and leak detection on the refrigerant circuit is part of the repairs. Spare parts are invoiced by quote. IZI by EDF has more than 70 branches, including one in Paris, and 800 technicians and installers.
Murfy: servicing at a displayed price
Murfy publishes a servicing price for air conditioning: from 135 euros incl. VAT, with a 55 euro supplement from 3 splits, for about 1 h 30 on site. Checking the refrigerant circuit, deep cleaning and checking wear parts are part of the visit.
The appointment is booked online, with slots within 48 hours in most covered areas. Murfy highlights the absence of subcontracting and provides a report with the servicing certificate. If the technician finds a problem, they report it immediately and offer a repair quote, with no additional work without the customer’s consent. For an air conditioner installed by Murfy, the process announces a free first servicing and quick repairs in case of breakdown. The company states that more than 450,000 households have already trusted it.
Proxiserve: a contract with call-out within 48 hours
Proxiserve works through its servicing contracts for air-to-air heat pumps, in other words reversible air conditioners. The Sécurité contract starts at 11 euros a month, and the Confort contract, which combines servicing and call-out within 48 hours on working days, at 13 euros a month. A no-commitment service package is offered at 140 euros.
Servicing includes checking and optimising settings, performance checks, a leak test and cleaning of the units and filters. Proxiserve announces 2,500 salaried and certified technicians, a network of 120 branches across France and a certificate for insurance purposes.
Savelys: a breakdown page and a published price list
Savelys devotes a page to air conditioning breakdowns. The technician comes to the home, diagnoses the fault and offers a free quote if a part must be replaced. The appointment is confirmed by email and the technician calls before arriving. Savelys states nearly 200 RGE-certified branches and nearly 50 years of expertise.
The 2026 price list is public: in the Paris region, from Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 6 pm, one hour of labour plus travel costs 196.36 euros incl. VAT at the 20% rate, and 184.63 euros outside the Paris region. For servicing, the offer starts at 138.11 euros, with two contracts: Liberté, from 7 euros a month on a two-year cycle, and Sécurité, which includes unlimited call-outs excluding parts.
How much does air conditioning repair cost?
The price of a repair depends on the fault and the parts: it is set by quote. Providers mostly publish benchmarks for servicing and call-outs.
| Published benchmark | Amount | Provider |
|---|---|---|
| Air conditioning servicing, one visit | From €135 incl. VAT, +€55 from 3 splits | Murfy |
| Air conditioning servicing, one visit | From €138.11 | Savelys |
| No-commitment air-to-air heat pump service | €140 | Proxiserve |
| Servicing and call-out contract | €13/month (Confort) | Proxiserve |
| Single-split servicing and call-out contract | From €14.84/month | IZI by EDF |
| Call-out, 1 h of labour plus travel, Paris region | €196.36 incl. VAT | Savelys |
The price of parts is added in most cases. A contract that includes call-outs covers labour and travel, not the replacement of a component.
How to get your air conditioning repaired, step by step
- Note the error code shown on the indoor unit screen: it helps the technician diagnose the fault.
- Do not work on the circuit yourself: you risk injury or making the fault worse.
- Ask for the company’s capacity certificate before fixing the appointment.
- Insist on a written quote detailing labour, travel and parts.
- Compare the announced lead time: 24 to 48 hours at the national networks that publish it.
- Keep the invoice and the certificate provided at the end of the work.
When the fault also affects heating, the guide on a heating problem details the right contacts. For an older unit, the guide to repairing or replacing an appliance gives the decision criteria.
Air conditioning servicing: an obligation every 2 years
Regular servicing is the best way to avoid breakdowns, and it is mandatory. The rule is set by decree no. 2020-912 of 28 July 2020 and its order of 24 July 2020.
“Individual heat pumps and air conditioners must be serviced by a qualified professional every 2 years.” ADEME, “L’entretien des pompes à chaleur et des climatiseurs”, October 2023
This obligation applies from 4 to 70 kW. The professional provides a servicing certificate within 15 days of the visit, to be kept for at least 2 years to present in case of inspection, or on request from the landlord or the insurer. A new unit must have its first servicing within 2 years of installation at the latest. The logic is the same as for annual boiler maintenance: a unit that is looked after breaks down less often.
