In short:
- To find a professional to service a heat pump in France, there are three routes: the original installer, a local heating or refrigeration engineer, or a national network such as IZI by EDF, Murfy, Proxiserve or Savelys.
- Servicing is compulsory for heat pumps of 4 to 70 kW, at least every 2 years, with a leak check of the refrigerant circuit and a certificate issued within 15 days (decree no. 2020-912 of 28 July 2020).
- Without a contract, a visit on an air-to-water heat pump costs 195 to 234.50 euros with the national networks in 2026; contracts range from 13 to 22 euros a month.
- The right choice depends on the need: a one-off visit at a published price, or a contract that adds repairs, labour and call-out included.
Heat pump servicing in France is not optional: since 2020, the rules require a visit by a professional at least every two years on units of 4 to 70 kW, which covers nearly all heat pumps in homes. The question is who to call: the original installer, a local engineer or a national network, each with different plans. This guide sets out what the law says, what the visit must include and what four national networks publish.
Heat pump servicing professionals and their prices in 2026
The table shows what each network publishes on its website as of 2 November 2026, for an air-to-water heat pump, in alphabetical order. It is not a ranking.
| Provider | One-off visit | Servicing contract | Repairs | Stated lead time | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| IZI by EDF | From €234.50 | Sécurité: €19.17/month (€229.99/year) | Included in the contract, labour and call-out, parts extra | 24 to 48 h for contract customers | An all-in contract handled by a local branch |
| Murfy | €195 incl. VAT, about 2 h | No contract, visit by visit | Repair request form | Online booking within 48 h in most covered areas | A one-off visit at a published price, no commitment |
| Proxiserve (Easy Entretien) | €210, no commitment | Sécurité from €15.50/month, Confort €19.08/month | Included in the Confort contract (units under 10 years old) | Repairs within 48 h on working days, 24 h for a total breakdown | A monthly contract with fast repairs |
| Savelys (ENGIE group) | From €216 (2026 provincial price list) | Two-yearly Liberté €13/month, Liberté €18/month, Sécurité €22/month | Unlimited in the Sécurité contract, labour and call-out | 48 working hours, 24 h for a total breakdown | A contract matched to the legal 2-year pace |
Two approaches stand out. Murfy sells a visit by visit, at 195 euros including VAT for an air-to-water heat pump. IZI by EDF, Proxiserve and Savelys also offer a one-off visit, but highlight contracts that add repairs. In every case, spare parts are charged on top.
What the law says about heat pump servicing
The obligation comes from decree no. 2020-912 of 28 July 2020, codified in articles R. 224-44 onwards of the French environment code. It covers thermodynamic heating and cooling systems with an output of 4 to 70 kW.
One visit every 2 years at most
« La période séparant deux entretiens ne peut pas excéder deux ans. » (No more than two years may pass between two servicing visits.) Article R. 224-44-3 of the French environment code, decree of 28 July 2020
Servicing is arranged by the occupant, whether owner or tenant. Two years is a maximum: a yearly visit is still possible, and most contracts include one. For a new heat pump, the first servicing takes place no later than two years after it is commissioned.
The servicing certificate within 15 days
After each visit, the professional draws up a servicing certificate and hands it over within 15 days. It lists the checks carried out, any faults found and the advice given. Keep it as proof that the unit is maintained.
Leak checks depending on the refrigerant charge
On top of servicing, units holding a large charge of refrigerant are subject to periodic leak checks, every 3, 6, 12 or 24 months depending on the charge, expressed in kilograms or tonnes of CO2 equivalent, as set out in the notice for Cerfa form no. 15497. The rating plate on the outdoor unit gives its charge.
What the servicing visit must include
The order of 24 July 2020 sets out the content of the visit. It is much more than a wipe of the outdoor unit.
The checks required by the order
- Refrigerant circuit leak check: inspection of the refrigerant sight glass and reading of the compressor pressures.
- Operating readings: temperatures, cycle reversal on a reversible heat pump, electrical voltages.
- Water circuit (air-to-water heat pumps): pressure, sludge, circulator pumps, expansion vessel.
- Outdoor unit: condition and cleanliness of the heat exchanger, filter.
- Settings and advice: the technician adjusts the settings and advises the occupant on how to use the unit.
What the owner can do between visits
The professional does not replace simple everyday care. Clearing leaves and snow around the outdoor unit, keeping the space in front of the grille free, cleaning the filters of the indoor units of an air-to-air heat pump every few weeks: these steps keep efficiency up. Everything else, especially anything involving the refrigerant circuit, is for the professional.
Who is allowed to service a heat pump?
A heat pump sits between two trades: heating, for the water circuit and the radiators, and refrigeration, for the refrigerant circuit. The professional you choose must master both.
The role of the certificate of capacity
Any handling of the refrigerant (recovery, recharging, repairing a leak) is reserved for a company holding a certificate of capacity, whose technicians hold a certificate of aptitude. Its number appears on the job sheet. The topic is covered in detail in the guide to finding a certified air conditioning repairer, which also applies to heat pumps.
RGE: useful for installation, not for servicing
The RGE label is a condition for public grants when installing a heat pump. It does not apply to servicing: a professional can service a heat pump without being RGE. Installation qualifications are explained in the article on the French RGE label.
Three routes to find a professional
- The original installer: they know the unit and its history. They are the first to call, especially during the warranty period.
- A local heating or refrigeration engineer: close by and flexible on slots. Check that they work on your brand and type of heat pump.
- A national network: published prices, online booking, contracts with repairs. It is the easiest way to compare before calling.
What each national network offers
The four networks below publish an air-to-water heat pump servicing offer for households, with prices online as of 2 November 2026. They are listed in alphabetical order.
IZI by EDF: a contract that includes repairs
IZI by EDF offers a one-off visit for an air-to-water heat pump from 234.50 euros, and a Sécurité contract at 19.17 euros a month including VAT, or 229.99 euros a year. The contract includes a visual leak check of the refrigerant circuit, the servicing certificate and all repairs, labour and call-out included, spare parts excluded. Contract customers get a response time of 24 to 48 hours. The company reports more than 70 branches and 1,100 staff, and has a page dedicated to heat pump repairs. For a single-split air-to-air heat pump, the contract starts at 14.84 euros a month.
Murfy: a visit at a published price, booked online
Murfy publishes a single price for servicing an air-to-water heat pump: 195 euros including VAT, for about two hours on site, with no contract and no commitment. The visit includes cleaning the evaporator, checking the refrigerant circuit, checking water quality and inspecting wear parts. It ends with a report and the regulatory servicing certificate.
The appointment is booked online by choosing the type of unit, with slots within 48 hours in most covered areas. Other units also have published prices: 95 euros including VAT for a heat pump water heater, 135 euros including VAT for a gas boiler or an air-to-air heat pump. Murfy states that more than 450,000 people in France have already trusted it. The service area is confirmed when booking.
Proxiserve: contracts with repairs within 48 hours
Proxiserve sells its servicing contracts online under the Easy Entretien brand. For an air-to-water heat pump, the no-commitment visit costs 210 euros. The Sécurité contract starts at 15.50 euros a month including VAT, and the Confort contract, at 19.08 euros a month including VAT, adds repairs within 48 working hours, cut to 24 hours for a total breakdown, on units under 10 years old. Each visit includes a visual leak check of the refrigerant circuits and comes with a job certificate. Proxiserve reports 120 branches and 2,500 technicians.
Savelys: a contract matched to the legal pace
Savelys, the new name of ENGIE Home Services, offers a service visit for an air-to-water heat pump from 216 euros (2026 provincial price list). Its contracts include a two-yearly Liberté plan at 13 euros a month, matched to the legal two-year pace, a Liberté plan at 18 euros a month and a Sécurité plan at 22 euros a month, which includes unlimited repairs, labour and call-out. The servicing certificate is included in every plan. The stated response time is 48 working hours, 24 hours for a total breakdown. The company has 4,500 staff and 170 local sites.
One-off visit or contract: how to choose
The choice mainly depends on the age of the unit and how much cover you want in case of a breakdown.
| Situation | Best-suited option | Published example |
|---|---|---|
| Recent heat pump, still under the manufacturer’s warranty | One-off visit every 1 or 2 years | Murfy, €195 incl. VAT |
| Tightest servicing budget, at the legal pace | Two-yearly contract | Savelys two-yearly Liberté, €13/month |
| Heat pump over 5 years old, worried about a winter breakdown | Contract with repairs included | IZI by EDF Sécurité, €19.17/month |
| Need a guaranteed repair lead time | Contract with a written lead time | Proxiserve Confort, 24 to 48 h |
A contract with repairs mainly protects against the cost of a call-out and labour in case of a breakdown, with parts extra in all four offers presented. On a new unit, the manufacturer’s warranty already covers parts, and a one-off visit at the legal pace meets the obligation.
Practical tips before booking a service
- Have the unit details ready: brand, model, output and type (air-to-water, air-to-air, hybrid) are on the rating plate of the outdoor unit.
- Ask what the visit includes: the refrigerant circuit leak check is part of regulatory servicing.
- Check the scope of the contract: repairs included or not, written lead time, parts included or not, maximum age of the unit.
- Keep every certificate: it proves the unit has been maintained, for example if the manufacturer’s warranty is called upon.
- Plan visits together if the home also has a back-up boiler: the rules for annual boiler maintenance are different, one visit a year.
- For an air-to-air heat pump, the same networks step in: the guide to choosing an air conditioning installer covers the points specific to splits.
